I decided to do what every logical woman does with someone they’ve spent 2 entire weeks with. I moved in with him.

Right- so I've finally taken the plunge and have decided it might be both therapeutic (for me) and a good laugh (for anyone reading), to share my trials and tribulations as a Canadian girl living in London, England. Here is an abridged bit of background: In 2010 I finished a degree at University and my contract with a cushy government job came to an end, and I was feeling pretty underwhelmed with Ottawa.  In the summer I had fallen in love with a sweet British man who I emailed and “skyped” everyday, and by the time October came around, I decided to do what every logical woman does with someone they’ve spent 2 entire weeks with. I moved in with him.
In all fairness, he and I had met a year prior and kept in touch until the summer when I went over for 2 weeks on my vacation from the government. You can imagine it was a fairly life-changing 2 weeks. (Nothing funny! My parents are reading this!)
So it’s October 2010, and within hours of landing at Heathrow I had already delved into a world of exciting and massively awkward scenarios that are really funny today, although often horrifying at the time.
There were countless situations that made me feel like I was in a movie. Every time I stumbled home from the pub in a state of confusion, or got pushed around attempting to walk in the city during rush hour, or got asked if I were American, it felt like God (or something) must be sitting on a couch eating popcorn and “taking the piss” (translation: making fun of me, having a laugh).
There are times that I think London is the best city in the world, and other times that I resent the hell out of the place. And I am SO gutted that I didn’t write about these things as I felt them for the first time.
So, this blog will be a way to reminisce about many first time experiences of living in London, and to continue writing about my everyday experiences living there. I say “there” because I’m currently in Canada, counting down the days until I’m back!
And the countdown begins...
